Please do not attempt improvisational opticionry. That is, do no attempt to repair your glasses on your own. Although some attempts at home repair border on creative genius, we prefer that you allow our professional staff to do what they do best when repairs are required. In many cases, your well-intentioned efforts can invalidate any warranty that may still be covering your frames. Please return all parts/pieces including lenses to our office for repair or replacement when you are in need of assistance.

Tips for Buying kids' Eyewear
By Dr. Battani
  • Spring Hinges
When selecting children's frames, a good feature to look for is a frame with spring hinges. This design allows for outward flexure of the temples that act to minimize the force of an impact, reducing damage to the frame and the wearer. It also allows the frame to retain its shape to better withstand accidental twisting or torsion on the frame chassis.

  • Eyes should be centered in each lenses
A good rule of thumb in frame selection for a child is to make sure the eyes are centered in the eye size both vertically and horizontally. Too much frame size to the outside or inside of the sight line can result in poor cosmetic appearance of the edge thickness in higher prescriptions.

  • Fit of the temples
Also, it is important to make sure that the temples do not bind head or ears when choosing a frame. Binding temples can cause adverse skin reactions if the child is allergic or sensitive to metal. Further, poorly fitted temples can trigger headaches as they compress the temporal artery which runs along side the head and upper cheek, towards the ear. Take the time to make sure frames are fitted and adjusted properly by a skilled optician to avoid unnecessary comfort problems which can easily be eliminated.

  • Memory Metal (Flexon)
For kids who are particularly hard on frames, such as overly active or special needs children, Dr. Battani recommends flex-titanium frames. This unique design is a combination of titanium and nickel metal alloy, which results in a virtually indestructible compound. Once formed to the desired shape, it is necessary to heat the metal to 2000 degrees in order to change the molecular structure of this product. Frames made of this material will withstand extreme abuse from accidental twisting and bending, and carry a two-year, unconditional manufacture's warranty. Although these frames carry a slightly higher sticker price, they can save the savvy parent lots of dollars in the long run. The unmatched warranty of this product certainly acts as an insurance policy against those prone to recklessness and rugged behavior.
